Champlain Elementary School Learning Center
Welcome to the Champlain Elementary School Library, also called the “Learning Center.” The Learning Center serves over 330 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. The space is open during regular school hours (8:08 - 3:00pm). Parents are welcome to visit the Learning Center during school hours to browse and check out books and other materials from the collection. To access our online library catalog, please click on the following link: http://bit.ly/2bjTIJO.
Students will visit the Learning Center for 45 minutes each week based on their classroom schedule. Reading selections and projects will be thoughtfully woven into the Learning Center curriculum to create an engaging, dynamic, and educational platform for learning. Students will have the opportunity to jump into a read aloud book selected by the Library Media Specialist and to make connections to lifelong learning through age-appropriate projects or activities. Book choice is a highlight of every student’s time in the Learning Center. Each student will have a Learning Center account and be given the chance to browse the collection and check out two items. My goal is for every student to check out one “just right” book to build literacy skills and one age-appropriate book for pleasure.
The Learning Center subscribes to several services to enrich and enhance learning in reading, math, science, music, art, and a multitude of other subject areas. To access these online resources when not at school, please contact me (see below). Check out the Learning Center site and watch for a major upgrade of the site by September and throughout the year by clicking on the following link: http://bit.ly/2aVFuOj.
I hope you will find time each day to read and talk about books with your child. Research shows that reading aloud to your child is one of the most important things you can do to ensure that your child is successful in school.
Mrs. Janet Stewart, the Library Assistant, and I, look forward to supporting each child in their learning and growth. If you would like to volunteer in the Learning Center, please let me know. I welcome and value your input. Please come to the Learning Center to say hello and to share your comments or suggestions with us. In addition, you may contact me through email or by phone.
